Ombudsman reiterates call on Congress to pass legislation

The Acting Ombudsman, Eduardo Vega, reiterated his call for Congress to pass the autograph of Act right to consultation, and it takes nine months waiting to be treated for parliamentary representation.
noted that the text, which was returned to Parliament after being noticed by the Executive in June last year, must be approved considering the important consensus achieved within the framework of the Convention 169 of the International Labour Organization.
Through a letter sent to the holder of Parliament, Cesar Zumaeta, the Ombudsman noted that nine months have passed since the opinions of the Act are ready for discussion by the full Congress.
However, to date, this procedure has not been produced, generating, according to the institution, a situation that contributes to building a trusting relationship between indigenous peoples and the state.
For its part, the Deputy Ombudsman for the Environment, Public Services and Indigenous Peoples, Ivan Lanegra said that that law aims to create conditions for implementation of the right to consultation, providing a clear and orderly for the various sectors involved.
While the Head of the Indigenous Peoples Program, Alicia Abanto, said the Andean and Amazonian indigenous organizations constantly seek the approval of the text considered vital to the defense of their rights.
