Two terrorists killed in confrontation with the Army in the VRAE

At least two members of the Shining Path terrorist group were killed Sunday after a clash with soldiers in an area of \u200b\u200bthe Valley of the Apurimac and Ene Rivers (VRAE), where the remaining walkers operate in alliance with drug traffickers, reported Army.

The collision occurred around 1745 hours in the town of Ayacucho, located in the region called VRAE-one of the strongholds of the guerrillas and drug trafficking, the military said in a statement.

"Armed Forces patrol clashed with a column of terrorists (...) as a result of the clash killed two narco-terrorists and is presumed to have several wounded," said Army.

The government launched an offensive in the villages where the guerrillas operate in an attempt to contain an outbreak of violence, but more than a year the balance is about 50 soldiers and policemen killed in clashes and rebel attacks .

Also, police and drug enforcement officials resumed in January a program to reduce the cultivation of the coca leaf.

Analysts say the attacks and ambushes by insurgents will increase in coming months as they are approaching regional elections in October and the presidential elections in the first half of 2011.
